- Q 45 —

186.    Lairage at Ma Tau Kok Slaughter Depot.—-This work consists of the erection within the Slaughter Depot of a reinforced concrete lairage to accommodate 120 cattle. A contract was let to Messrs. The Eastern Mercantile Construction Co. for $9,856.00 on the 15th November, 1932 and by the end of the year fair progress had been made with the work.

187.    Wireless Broadcasting Station, Kowloon.—The work consists of the erection of a block of offices and workshops on the Hung Hom Reclamation. The Contract was let to Messrs. Tung Shan & Co. and work commenced at the end of the year.

188.    Forming Children's Playground and erecting Sheds, etc.—Cox's Road, Kowloon.—A portion of ground occupied by the Kowloon Cricket Club was taken over, levelled, turfed, fenced and equipped for use as a children’s playground. A reinforced concrete shelter with lavatories attached, was also erected.

189.    Postal Kiosk at Kowloon City.—The work consisted of the erection of a Kiosk for the purpose of selling stamps at the Eastern junction of Nga Tsin Wai Road and Prince Edward Road. The Contract was let to Messrs. Kin Lee & Co. Work was commenced at the end of June and completed at the end of August.

190.    Lady Ho Tung Infant Welfare Centre.-—The funds and land for this work were provided by Sir Robert Ho Tung. The Centre is situated at Fanling and consists of a Clinic building containing a Waiting Room, Examination Room, Doctors Room, Dispensary, and Clerks Office. Adjoining the Clinic is a small block providing quarters for a Nurse-Midwife, Dresser-Dispenser, Coolie, and motor driver together with a garage for the ambulance. A Contract was let to Messrs. Blackmore & Blackburn Ltd. for $51,544.66 on the 15th December 1932.

191.    Garages at Sheung Shui and Sha Tau Kok Police Stations.—These garages are to accommodate the Police Motor Patrol machines. The work was commenced in July and completed in about six weeks’ time.

192. Improving and Strengthening Main Roads.—An additional layer of 4" macadam was laid and tarpainted between the 19th and 21st milestones, and 22nd & 24th milestones between Castle Peak and Ping Shan.

218. This work was referred to in paragraph 299 of last year’s Report. On the Hong Kong side, the work of constructing the reclamation and reinforced concrete ferry berths was completed at the end of the year except for the construction of the motor house and roofing over the waiting areas on the inner berth on the cast side of the pier. On the Kowloon side, the original scheme was increased to provide an additional berth. The reclamation and berthage of the enlarged scheme was completed at the end of the year. The machinery and steelwork for making contact between ship and shore were supplied by the Crown Agents and arrived in the Colony in November. Except for the unfinished berth on the Hong Kong side the work of erecting this gear was completed by the end of the year.

Jubilee Street Ferry Pier was wired for electric lights, fans and lift or hoist, but not completed.

Jordan Road Ferry Pier was wired for electric lights and power, but not completed.
