"The U-shape disused tunnel is reckoned to be used for shipment of ammunition during the war time and might have been abandoned or filled up after the war time." according to govt study this year. Says CEDD doesn't have further details. Map included in the Heritage Impact Assessment for new pumping station. http://www.amo.gov.hk/form/HIA_Report_Cotton%20Tree_%20Drive_%20FWPS.pdf
I found this very interesting Japanese position on Mt Cameron last week.
Our visits to the old Japanese wartime tunnels around Hong Kong don't usually make it to the front page of Gwulo, but this is a special one.
First there's
I read about this tunnel recently in an 1986 newsletter "Military History Notes", written by Philip Bruce:
Perhaps the most extensive Japanese system to be found in Hong Kong is on Smugglers' Ridge, to the south of and overlooking the Shing mun redoubt. There are at least two entrances on the northern face, about 30 feet or so down from the ridge path, well concealed by undergrowth and requiring some effort to locate. It is worth noting that they were uncovered only recently by a former US Marine officer with extensive Vietnam experience.
Visited on 22nd Nov 2013.
The main entrance is a drop into an a shallow pit. Behind it they'd excavated a cavern into the rock, and on the left side there is a tunnel. The tunnel leads down to a smaller opening a short distance from the main one.
Note: Approximate location +/- 100m along the shore
Japanese Tunnel near the shore line. It has a stone platform with a step behind to place a machine gun on.

This is a slightly unusual tunnel. It has a big entrance and the first couple of meters are quite wide, but then leads into a long thiner (usual size) tunnel for about 10 meters. Due to its location facing towards Tai Tam rd. I suspect it was to guard against vehicles and anti-personal.
To get to it you have to get inside the Boy's scouts grounds, opposite HKIS school towards Tai Tam Tuk village, and then follow the Tennis court fence and then head up the valley. About 50m from the Tennis courts.
Small Japanese Tunnel with a flat platform made using stones outside the entrance, only a few meters deep. Most likely Light-Medium AA Site.
