Japanese Tunnel at Black Point [????- ]

Submitted by KrisM on Mon, 02/28/2022 - 13:26

I was doing a bit of unrelated research when I came across an interesting EIA report (https://www.epd.gov.hk/eia/register/report/eiareport/eia_1252006/html/ex...). It seems that back in 2006 there was a plan to build a Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) receiving terminal at Black Point (https://goo.gl/maps/eTRsMMFojdxTUNu2A), though it appears to have been subsequently abandoned.

Japanese Tunnel at Golden Hill [c.1944- ]

Submitted by HighlandPaddyHK on Mon, 12/20/2021 - 21:26

Twenty metres below the summit of Golden Hill on the north side is a large Japanese tunnel network comparable to that found on Smuggler's Ridge. There are several entrances and at least two loopholes with brickwork to fire on attackers climbing up from below. Some sections have filled in and at least one rockfall was noted, but otherwise the tunnels are clean.

Japanese Tunnel in Pinewood Battery Area Lung Fu Shan [c.1943- ]

Submitted by ChenQiao on Sat, 03/27/2021 - 20:25

This tunnel is close to the unpaved trail leading up to Pinewood Battery Heritage Trail. The entrance is immediately visible when you walk by. It is a small tunnel with only one entrance, and turns right with a dead end. There is a pair of light holders (are they?) made on both sides of the walls in the right branch.

Japanese Tunnel Above Governers Walk near Two Gated Caves [c.1942- ]

This is a small tunnel with two entrances above Governer's Walk below Victoria Peak Pagoda. It is located near the larger gated cave (Left): Gated Tunnel on Governors Walk, below Victoria Peak Pagoda. I was actually guessing that they might be connected, but it turned out the left branch of the gated cave is a dead end despite directing towards this tunnel.

The northwestern entrance seems a good observation site, given that the bushes are cleared out. After all, it has almost the same view as the lookout point slightly above the hill.

Japanese Tunnel and Trenches SE of Mount High West [????- ]

Submitted by MikeB on Thu, 02/11/2021 - 23:15

A fairly large complex with 2 exits, several turns and chambers. It's very easy to reach from the main path leading up to Mount High West. Turn left right before the first major stairs begin to ascend up the mountain. You will walk West and come across it to the right of the path after a very short walk on the well trodden ribbon trail. There's also a trench system S of the Tunnel.

Japanese Tunnel and Trenches SE of Mansfield Road [????- ]

Submitted by MikeB on Mon, 01/25/2021 - 23:53

A major position with long trenches and a at least 2 Tunnel entrances. One big entrance collapsed in the hillside and one smaller vertical entrance on the level of the trenches.

Tunnel rats are welcome to explore.

There's also a long waterpipe skirting around the slope from West to East. Don't go further downhill as the tunnels and trenches are just 10 to 15m above it.
