General

• There's one more chance to attend my Gwulo's Farewell talk: the Royal Geographical Society in Hong Kong have kindly invited me to present the talk again this Wednesday, 12 June, and non-members are welcome to attend. Please register online at their website.

• Thank you to everyone who attended the recent Gwulo's Farewell talk at the HK Arts Centre. It was lovely to look out and see a full theatre and so many friendly faces.

  

   

• Thank you to wingcli2015 for typing up the jurors lists for 1856, 1874, 1875, and 1876.

• A serialization of Benjamin Proulx's escape from Hong Kong in 1942

• I never imagined that above the busy streets of Causeway Bay there is a calm and cosy library, dedicated to the humanities. I visited Nose In The Books for the first time last week, and took the photo below. It is open to the public and visits are free, but you will need to pay a small and refundable deposit the first time you register. Contact Nose In The Books for full details.

  

   

• Memories of Anderson Road in the 1960s & 70s

• For unknown reasons, the original foundation stone for the Imperial Hotel now lies on the ground at the side of Sha Tin Heights Road

• Peggy Horton suffered terrible hardships in Hong Kong during WW2, but managed to survive and went on to find happiness after the war was over. Andrew Hill has shared Peggy's story with us.

Gwulo's books

Book sales at the recent talks pushed us past another milestone - we've now sold over 8,000 copies of Gwulo's books!

Looking ahead, our move to the UK means there will be some changes in how you can buy copies in future.

These next two weeks are your last chance to order direct from Gwulo. After that the movers will come to pack everything up, and we won't see the books again until they arrive in the UK.

You've got several options depending on where you're based:

• Hong Kong & Kowloon - visit your nearest Bookazine store, as they keep all of Gwulo's books in stock. (You can also order from their website, with free local delivery on orders over HK$500.)
   
• Mui Wo / Silvermine Bay - visit the Vibe bookstore on Lantau. (If you visit on a Saturday they're often hosting a speaker or a music performance - check out their Facebook page for details of what's on.)
   
• Worldwide - I'm happy to announce that Blacksmith Books have added Gwulo's books to their catalogue. You can order online and they'll ship worldwide. While you're there, take a look at Blacksmith's own range of books about Hong Kong history.
   
• USA - You can find Gwulo's books at Amazon.com (referral link).
