Delighted to have got a good copy of this photo from the Public Records Office.
Because of the lack of trees and shrubs at this time, we have a clear view of some 23 houses on the island circa 1919, taken from a slightly different angle to other pictures, giving us useful extra information. Hong Kong in the distance behind House 22.
The image was provided by Mrs Iris Johnston, daughter of Sir Henry May, former Hong Kong governor.
The Macpherson in question is John Livingston McPherson and the house is House #27A.

Items in orange I am not so sure of. Three houses in white are unidentified. House A may be seen in the 1924 aerial photo. House B may or may not be a house. House C is in the area of the Assembly Hall, which was not yet built. Was there a house on the site previously? Or is this the Assembly Hall under construction?

House 27 is identified by the reinforcing ribs on the roof and parapet, with a narrow verandah, extended later.
House A is a new one to me.
House 2 does not have its verandah on yet.
House 6 does not have its verandah on yet.
