Yee Lok Theatre / 余樂戲院 [1952-1952]

Submitted by OldTimer on Wed, 03/01/2017 - 23:07

Please ignore the location marker shown on this map.

The official, or even the non-offical English name of the theatre is not avaiable, nor its operating period.  The existence of the theatre came to light following an article in a local Chineser Kung Sheung Daily News in 1952.

Only the English name is available from the source Cinema Treasures which explains it corresponding to the Cantonese pronunciation of the theatre's name.  My reverse-translation arrived at  余樂戲院.

Hong Kong's Cinemas

Submitted by OldTimer on Wed, 03/01/2017 - 18:23

Cinemas in Hong Kong come and go to keep pace with the ever changing urban landscape, viewer choice and technology. Some operated for decades, while others for a few years or only a few months, some demolished and new one built, some with dozen seats while some have 2,000 seats, some renovated and re-named. Everyone of them generated warm memories to be cherished by their patrons.
