BM-Causeway Bay Cinema / 銅鑼灣戲院 BM [1997-2000]

Address: 19 Yee Wo Street, Lok Sing Centre, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.  Lok Sing Centre is the current occupant at the site.

The BM-Causeway Bay Cinema has an impressive pedigree.  Roxy Theatre [1949-1974] was the first theatre to operate at the site.  Next was Tokyo Cinema [1993-1997 est.] which was built on the same site.  In 1997 (estimated) it was renamed BM-Causeway Bay and was closed some time in early 2000.  For infomation on the other two former theatres:

Alexandra Cinematograph / 亞歷山德拉電影放映機 [1908-1909]

Seating capacity: not available.

Address:  2 Zetland Street, Central, Hong Kong.  A part of the Zetland Street has been built over; the theatre was likely located on the site curretly occupied by Pacific House.

The Chinese name shown here is obtained using Google translation, and selected for its wording likely used at the time.

ABC Cathay Theatre / 國泰戲院 ABC [1986-1997]

Seating capacity: 3 screens; 443, 450 and 379, total 1,272.

Address: 125 Wan Chai Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.  Cathay Lodge is the current occupant at the site.

ABC Cathay Theatre was built on the same site and it operated during the period August 16, 1986 - July 11, 1997.

UA Times Square Cinema / UA 時代廣場戲院 [1993-2012]

Seating capacity: 4 screens.  Two total capacities are given in the sources, 813 and 1,007.  Information collected thus far has not been able toexplain the difference.

Address: Time Square, 1 Matheson Street, Hong Kong.

UA Times Square Cinema operated during the period December 1993 - February 1, 2012.  On November 21, 2013 operation resumed at the site with the name Cine Times.  Cine Times continue to operate currently having five screens.

Yuen Long Palace Theatre / 元朗樂宮戲院 [1986-1999]

Seating capacity: 766

Address: 26 Yu King Square, Yuen Long, Hong Kong.  A 2011 Google street view shows that the theatre building remains standing and shops operating at ground level.

Yuen Long Palace Theatre operated during the period December 25, 1986 - September 1, 1999.

For simplicity, the two theatres which operated in the same hall are discussed here.

Address: 84 Choi Hung Road, San Po Kong, Kowloon, Hong Kong.  San Po Kong Mansion is the current occupant at the site.  From Google street views, the theatre building remains standing today and has been converted to a 5-storey residential place.

Ying King Theatre / 英京戲院 [1960-1977]

Seating capacity: 1,571

Address: 9 Fir Street / 33 Larch Street, Tai Kok Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong.  As did some theatres located on street corners, the theatre had two addresses which Google places at slightly different spots.  The theatre was located on the southwest corner of Fir - Larch intersection and its current occupant is Lever Building 麗華大廈.

Ying King Theatre operated during the period October 23, 1960 - September 1, 1977.  It was closed for two months in the summer of 1970 for renovation.
