My wife , then aged three, and her family were living in Tai Hang village at the outbeak of hostilities and on an un known date her mother went to the nearby stand pipe to draw water, the house mains at that time being out of order. While in the course of doing this chore she was killed instantly when a Japanese shell or bomb   landed close by. We are anxious to know for how long the British authorities presevered recording such deaths and issuing death certificate. As far as we know at this very late date her father never obtained one.

The Lands department has recently upgraded its online Mapping Service system, significantly increasing the availability of products and services. Previously useful access to many of these products required a trip to the Mapping and Survey office in North Point or elsewhere. .  I have summarised a few of the most useful parts of the new service to people researching Hong Kong History below.

I have been trying to look for landmarks and places related to the East India Company in Hong Kong. I have a few ideas and I am wondering if anyone has any more suggestion/addition to the list below?

- Places related to the Parsees community in Hong Kong (though the Parsees were here before the British came, plenty of them were brought here by the East India Company later and also a huge amount of their trade were related to the EIC later on before the monopoly ended)

So my latest plan to digitise the original tax records, the Hong Kong Rate books, involves taking a class at one of the universities-which has accommodation available- and doing it as a class project. But I don’t have any contacts in the history departments of the various universities.

Any suggestions?

Just thought I'd bring this collection to everyone's attention in case you weren't aware of it. 1500+ colour shots (un-edited, so there are quite a few dupes or out of focus etc) taken by a prolific photographer visiting HK in 1972. Can anybody remember Garway villas.It was on the castle peak road at 11 and half milestone.We lived there int he 60s and 70s.Possibly near the Lido beach as is known now but it didnt have a name then.Any information greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know what happened to United laundries it was located at North Point HK in the 70s. The business was sold in 1978.
