11 and a half milestones

Submitted by chrisallbutt on

Hello David,i lived in hong kong 1967-1971 and went back last year to try and find where we used to live.My mother says it was 11 1/2 milestone perhaps near castle peak beach. From what i could see the old castle peak road is closed and a new one built.i seem to remember the main road being right next to the sea and coming off it to go up a winding road to where the flat was.

Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Regards Chris

Manley and Madar families in Shanghai and Hong Kong

Submitted by SL1 on

Hi, geneology hobbyist and new Gwulo member here. I have some connections that I hope others can help elaborate on.

I was researching European royal families, when I stumbled upon the Eurasian paternal ancestry of Alexandra Christina Manley, the ex-wife of Prince Joachim of Denmark, from Hong Kong.

Oliver's Mount

Submitted by fivestar on

I have been reading a blog regarding Betty Church and it refers to her residence which was on Oliver's Mount the next rise to The Peak and near the Chinese Cemetery in Poukfulham.

I resided in Hong Kong for over 30 years but have never heard of Oliver's Mount.

Does the area actually exist?

How to search old Hong Kong newspapers for a certain word within a range of dates

Q. Jill asks how we could search for, say, any references to John Smith in the newspapers between 1894 and 1899? - i.e. looking for a name within a five year period (or more) pre-1900.

A. I don't know a way to just show exactly those results, but I can suggest a couple of techniques that will help make searching quicker.

A1. Try the simple search first
