Ho loi  mo geen! 

My question is about the rather fine ‘official’ head attire of the colonial governors. My mother worked in The Bank, as it was always referred to. She told me that one day she looked out of her north facing window down into Des Veoux Road and found that she was looking directly down onto the white  plumage adorning the top of the governor’s helmet. She said they were ostrich feathers. 

I wonder if anyone can substantiate which bird provided the rather splendid decorations? 

I remember coming across this memorial plaque along Golden Hill Road a few years back and was wondering if anyone could shed any light on what it was doing here. My only knowledge of Paul Dutoit is that he was a Belgian racing driver in the early part of last century, but is this the same chap?

Please can any of the readership inform me whether HMS Hood [sunk by Bismark in 1941] ever visited Hong Kong in the 1930s

Hello, I am new to this forum. I am a current resident in Hong Kong and have recently received some photographs of my Late Grandfather who came here between 1950-52 on the HMS Belfast. It is my intention to take on a personal project exploring a 'then and now' family portrait. I would really value any help or pointers on getting started. I have both books listed here which are wonderful and a selection of other old Hong Kong books.

When was the Pokfulam Reservoir Road been built. The one which leads up to the peak ? The Pokfulam Reservoir is the oldest Reservoir in Hong Kong, so that Road must be quite old.

Morover, when walking up that road there are bunkers on the right side. Are they from the Second World War ?
