Western Market pier at Morrison Street / Connaught Road for ferries to Mong Kok & Sham Shui Po [????-c.1939]

Submitted by David on

This pier is shown on Plate 3-5a of Mapping Hong Kong, marked "Ferry to Mong Kok & Sham Shui Po".

On Plate 3-5b it is simply marked "Govt Pier", probably because the ferry services had re-located to the then new Vehicular Ferry Pier between Jubilee Street and Queen Victoria Street.

Former Sai Wan Ho Vehicular Ferry Pier [1985-1991]

Hi there,

I could not remember exactly where was the old pier.   There used to be both a passenger ferry pier and a vehicular pier there.  The marker's location is just an approximation.  The pier was gone when Aldrich Bay was filled up for redevelopment in early 1980's.

Best Regards,

T

ps. The Vehicular ferry route here went to Kwun Tong.  Could not recall if vehicular only double deckers were used.

Vehicular Ferry Pier, Discovery Bay [1982- ]

Hi there,

I have not been to Disco Bay for over 20 years.  But I remember they had such a facility before they have highway access basically for residents' moving in or out.  Yaumati Ferry used to have  special arrangements with the developer for such ferry  service.  Don't know if the pier had been demolished or not.  The marker above is just an approximate location.  Correction welcome.

Any updates concerning if the pier is still there are welcomed as well.

Best Regards,

T

Pedder's Wharf (2nd generation) [c.1872-1886]

Submitted by David on

This pier stood in front of the north-west corner of Melchers' Building, at the junction of Pedder Street and the old Praya (today's Des Voeux Rd Central).

Dates approximate:

  • Completion: ?
  • Demolition: The Government Gazette announced a tender for "removal of the old Pedder's Wharf" (Notification 265, 17 July 1886).
