Does anybody know how to get to the underground East Brigade HQ in Tai Tam?
Hi
i am creating a theatre show about HK in the 1950s-1960s. Wondering if anyone knows what was the common clothing at the time? I am dealing mainly with the lower/working classes.
thanks!
My walks all seem to be heading down memory lane at the moment. Today's took me past an old squatter area, and I saw a glass bottle sticking out of the earth. It had probably been thrown out some years before - not antique, but a few decades old.
I was wondering if anyone might have a photo or be able to describe what it was like at the border crossing between Hong Kong and the mainland in the 1950s. I have some idea from Elsie Tu’s book, "Shouting at the Mountain". I gather from her husband’s story that there was a small bridge at the checkpoint on the Shenzhen River at that time. I wondered what it might have looked like. How many guards were there etc.
Although we're regular visitors to Chung Hom Kok beach, it was only this weekend that I noticed there's an old wartime pillbox over at the far end of the beach.
Here's the view along the beach, looking past the end of the second bbq-pit area.
Please note that some horrble maintenance work was done on the Devil's Peak Fort: http://go2nature.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22537&start=0
Some net friend had a trip a couple of days ago to check the 'Victoria City boundary stones'. He found that the one at Magazine Gap Road (the latest one found) had been removed. Any idea who did that? Or it was done by the government for conservation purpose?
Hello I will be in HK on June 1-3 and was a huge bruce lee fan. I read on the internet, his home address 41 Cumberland Lane ( not sure which area), was made a hotel. Can anyone please give me precise location of his house, his parent's house in HK??? Silly question but is there a bruce lee museum in HK also? Thanks Anthony
Hi. I'm currently working on a film (it must remain nameless for the time being). We are recreating the Hong Kong Harbour (using computer generated imagery) as viewed from Lily Pond in the Hong Kong University. We currently have 1 photo, but it is not really giving us a great idea of what the area below HKU looked like at that time. Does any one have any photographs of that area from that time period? They seem to be few and far between. We are VERY interested in getting this to be perfectly historically accurate. Any help would be great!
Thanks very much,
Brendan Taylor
I just finished reading this excellent book, also called "Golden Boy" here in the States. Anyone know of any other good memoir-type books out there about HK, preferably set in the 70s or 80s?
