Sorry, we don't have any photos with this tag yet.
I have read several books regarding the Japanese invasion and occupation of Hong Kong, 1941 - 1945. Most have been autobiographical accounts given by those interred at Stanley during those years. The remaining texts have been historical in nature. All have been very useful to my understanding about what happened to Hong Kong and its European civilian and military population.
An old fire engine is on display outside the former TST fire station (at junction of Kowloon Park Drive & Salisbury Rd.). Is it an engine that actually served HK? Or it is just one purchased by the developer from abroad?
Hi, don't know if anyone's posted on this before; the film Bodyguards & Assassins in coming out in September. Set in Hong Kong in 1905, it recreates the world Sun Yat Sen lived in, while the studio rebuilt Victoria on a 1:1 scale. From the trailer looks like they rebuilt Queens Road towards Sheung Wan. How cool is that?
here's the trailer anyway. Looks good
Dear all,
I am looking for photos and information on some of the old houses along the Wanchai stretch of Kennedy Road where St. Francis Canossion College is and eastwards to the end where it meets Queen's Road East.
No. 64 belonged to the Ngan family of the CMB and is the only one still standing but soon to go.
Where Amber Garden now is used to be 2 mansions. No. 72 and 74, one was privately owned and the other was used by the Jesuits (not verified). Can anyone offer some photos and info on them?
Hi All,
I am looking for old photos to use in a HK cafe in Spore.
I would appreciate it if anyone who owns some colour photos can contact me to allow me the rights to use them!
Thank you so much!!!!
my contact is liz - lyshea@yahoo.com
Thanks so much.
Last night's RAS talk was by Mrs Carrie Lam, Secretary for Development. She talked to us about Hong Kong's 'tangible heritage', which falls under her Development Bureau's responsibility. I guess I was expecting a fair amount of government blather, but she gave a straightforward talk, and I left feeling better about the chances of Heritage preservation in Hong Kong.
does anyone know what the little building is that's sandwiched between the government office blocks and the US consulate on lower albert road? Wondering when it was knocked down and why, given it's now a fairly pointless sitting out area

Some background from Rob Weir on the type of bunker that T has just reported:
This is a Type A Splinter Proof Shelter, and they can be found throughout the Island and Kowloon/NT. They were primarily for troop accommodation, containing 9 stretcher beds, but other known uses were as HQ's, First Aid Stations, storage, and cookhouses/field kitchens.
[Update, 5 Oct 2009: We've changed again, details below.]
We're trying out a new tool to help make it easier to view old photos and newspaper clippings. If you move your mouse over the image below, you should see a magnified copy shown above. Currently it only works on images that are uploaded to this site, not images linked to on other sites such as Flickr. I'll be interested to hear if you have any problems using it, and whether you find it useful or not.
