Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Folks,

A group of adult Hong Kong adoptees and I are organising an adoptee reunon in Hong Kong in Sept 2010 (www.caawr.com), so as part of our reunion I would love to understand the story behind the first Hong Kong orphanage, who started it, when and what brought it to past.

Katoomba, a house on 22 Magazine Gap Road

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Does anyone have anything, any info on the house called Katoomba, located on 22 Magazine Gap Road? I really want to know about it's first owner, and who owns it right now. This house has been in my childhood neighborhood for as long as I can remember. I lived at 17 Magazine Gap Road (also seeking old neighbors) with my family from 1974 - 1989. No. 17 was owned by my family from 1968 to 1990. No. 11 is still being owned by my best friend's family and No. 21 is also being owned by my Great Uncle.

Ole building on MacDonnell Rd

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Does anyone know what has happened to the building located right next to the Peak Tram Station on MacDonnell Rd? It was a biege 3 story OLD western style residential building with a huge backyard and an elevated landing facing the Peak Tram station. The building was shown in several 1970 HK postcards depicting the Peak Tram.

Leonard Rosoman - Painter

Submitted by 80sKid on

Came across some paintings by Leonard Rosoman, a well regarded painter who created haunting, vivid images. He was an artist attached to the British Navy from 1944 and visited Hong Kong shortly after the war, where he painted some wonderful pictures.

He did at least several of sunken ships in the harbour: http://vads.ahds.ac.uk/large.php?uid=66889&sos=5

Ice House Street name origin

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I bought a t-shirt with the Ice House Street sign on it and started looking for info on the origin of the street's name. I've found two conflicting stories on Wikipedia. Was Ice House Street named for the Dairy Farm ice house built in 1911 on the street that would become Ice House St.? Or, was the Dairy Farm ice house in the present-day Fringe Club on Lower Albert? If it was the latter, why was Ice House Street named that if the ice house wasn't on that street?
