Fan Garden and Dodwells Ridge

Submitted by tonyb on

Recently I came across names of 2 camps near Fanling.  Googling them bring up very few entries which are military related.  The 2 camps are "Fan Garden" and "Dodwells Ridge".  Both are mentioned in this post:

I would like to visit the sites for these old camps and see what is left of them but I've not been able to find the precise locations for these camps.

Does anyone know where these camps used to be located?

Kwong Yee Loong - General Store- Kowloon 1930-60s?

Can some one give me a history of this business that was around maybe up to mid 1960s. I'm sure it was in Kowloon. My parents lived in New Zealand, and I remember Mum sending us to the Post Office in NZ to purchase Postal Orders. Once she had enough, she would send away for Hong Kong jackets, possibly Chinese Mushrooms and dried shrimp. Always a red letter day when the package arrived in NZ.

Old Houses of Hong Kong

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I just did a blog which has links at the end for the two latest postings I have done relating to Old Houses of Hong Kong. SEE: http://sharonoddiebrown.blogspot.com/2011/02/in-defence-of-not-knowing…
There will likely be a few errors, or things that should be added. I am all ears if anyone wants to set me straight.

Help required on some Macau information

Submitted by lizchater on

Hi,

Need some assistance please.  I have a Carl Smith Card 114055 part of which has the following text: "Macau B-13 P.255 - 21 May 1887"

Another reference on the cards says: B-14 P.150 - 29 Dec 1887"

The subject matter is about a property being sold between two people in Macau.  My question is this:

What document/book/record is Carl Smith referring to with these references and are they accessible at the HK PRO.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Liz

Russian food and eateries in Hong Kong

Submitted by IDJ on

During the last months there have been various mentions of Russian eating places and bakeries in Hong Kong including the search for Tkachenko's location etc. Someone also mentioned that the history of Russians in the territory was very sparse. I've just come across the newsprint feature presented below while clearing out old newspaper cuttings. It covers a bit more on the Russian eateries and the evolvement of well known named delicatessens.
