Here is an interesting table I thought I'd transcribe.

Return descriptive of every Building, exclusive of Gaols and Police Stations, belonging to the Colony, with Annual Rent derivable from each, for the Year ended 31st December, 1883.

Today there is 上環 Sheung Wan and 中環 Central, but the name 下環 'Ha Wan' also gets bandied about from time to time.  Where is the approximate geographical area for it?  Is it modern day Admiralty?  Or elsewhere?

I have been looking at the census returns recently and have yet to find one with names of people. There is a lot of analysis. But no names or addresses.

Thought the 1911 returns might be as we know them here in Ireland - we have one this Sunday - with families listed at their addresses and the various other information. But not so. Though there is even more analysis there are no names and addresses.

I wonder if there were other official lists kept of names and families and if and when census returns appear as we know them both here and in the UK?

I'm researching family history in Hong Kong and would like to know if the school registers for the Diocesan Boys School (founded as an orphanage in 1869) and Government Central School (now Queen's College) survived the Japanese occupation and are kept somewhere. Anybody know?

I am looking for a photograph of the Repulse Bay Hotel around the 1940s/1950s. My dad lived there during that time and I live here now, and so I think it would be a touching gift. I have been looking for one for some years now, but have been unable to find one so far.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I am looking for pre-war photographs of Electric Road, North Point, to prove something which my grandmother had been telling me for years.

My grandmother, who unfortunately passed away two years ago, lived on Electric Road before 1940. She told me that, along with some distant relatives rented a flat on Electric Road, and worked at a torch factory in North Point (she could never work out what the factory was called), where she was involved in 'mixing battery powder'.

Also I'm trying to find a book on Sir Robert Kotewall which is titled:

Sir Robert Kotewall: A Man of Hong Kong

 Any ideas where i can get hold of it?
