The Shuster Family in Hong Kong

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Hi from Portugal!

I am a descendent of the Shuster Family who was in Hong Kong around 1880-1950). My grandfather, Fritz Edward Shuster, died as a POW In a camp in Japan. Some years after that, my grandmother (Elvira da Cruz) left HK and came to Portugal with her children (my Mom and Uncle) where she lived till she passed away in 1998.

Now I have been able to trace the Shuster's back to an an ancestor, Jacob Fritz Shuster, who worked at a Sugar Refinery, but I would like to find out more information, if possible.

Carl Smith Collection Card - can anyone help with content please?

Submitted by Colette22 on

Hi

I hope that this is an appropriate question to ask on this forum....my apologies if not.

The exact exerpt from the card is below .  I understand everything except the last line (which I think means that the source of the information is from the godfather G.T.Cruz) I don't know what "SP:" means other than possibly Spanish or sponsor.  Has anyone else found something similar and knows what it means please?

Bunkers - Stanley View - Stanley Mound

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Reading books about the period December v1941 - I see a lot of references to Stanley View and Stanley Mound. Does anybody know where these to features are ? I assumed that Stanley View was where the bukers are 500 metres down Chung Hom Kok Road (now a garden centre) ? I assumed Stanley Mound is the hill on the Wilson Trail due north of Stanley ? Also coming down Stone Hill via steep ravine that comes out on the road from Chung Hom Kok to the Stanley intersection I came across serveral bunkers facing the ravine - I assume a Coy HQ either Royal Rifles or HKVDC - anybody know about these ?

Places - People - Compounds

Submitted by Admin on

Two questions have come up:

  1. How to handle places that in turn consist of other places?
  2. How to link people to places?

1. How to handle places that in turn consist of other places?

eg the old army land around Admiralty was known as Victoria Barracks, and deserves a Place. But that area also contained several landmarks (eg Murray House, HQLF, etc) that deserve their own Places. How does a visitor to the bigger 'container' Place know there is a lot of extra information available in the smaller 'contained' Places?

D. Jaffe and Tai Tam Tuk reservoir - historic photos - and query re marriage certificate

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

My grandfather was Daniel Jaffé (after whom Jaffe Road was named), who was a special engineer working for the Govt. on the Tai Tam Tuk reservoir completed in 1918.  I have historical photos of him, the building team, the opening ceremony etc.  Are you interested in my uploading them ?

Help with information and pictures

Submitted by Chris99t on

Hi

I was born in BMH Mount Kellett in November 1966. My father was royal signals and lived with Mum in Jubilee Buildings. We used to get the ferry to go swimming on Stonecutters island. I never managed to get back before we handed over the province and would be interested in any pictures from the time around when I was born.

Cheers

Chris
