I recommend including the UKNA's text reference along with any link. Links stop working over time, but hopefully their text references (eg "CO 129/88") will always work.

Thanks for posting Annelisec. This is an interesting photo of Mount Gough, not least because it gives a rare view of “The Sheiling”, a building for which Gwulo has only this image as far as I am aware. Unfortunately, The Sheiling is partly hidden behind trees and is a bit blurred, but this is what I’m talking about.

The Sheiling, by gw

The light-coloured ground all around the building must be freshly dug earth, so it’s a construction site. The Sheiling was constructed sometime between 1879 and 1886, but other buildings in the main photo tell us it was taken later than that. The Sheiling was demolished and replaced by the much larger Stewart Terrace sometime between early 1889 and mid-1890. The photo probably dates from when ground preparation for the construction of Stewart Terrace was underway, just before The Sheiling was demolished, i.e. sometime from early 1889 to early 1890.

The photographer was standing on the path from Mount Kellett Road down to the large (by HK standards), flat patch of land designated as RBL 21 on the edge of which the bungalow called La Hacienda stood - its garden wall is seen in the bottom right of the main photo.
