Temporary Buildings (next to the Supreme Court Building)

Submitted by danielwettling on

Hello,

There has been a couple of temporary buildings on Statue Square in the 1940's.

I was told, that these buildings were built after the second world war, late 1940's. But I found pictures with the buildings marked 1940-1941 ?

What is correct.? Or when were these buildings built and for what purpose ?

Thank you very much for all your kind replies

Best regards,  Daniel

Li Hall (next to St. John's Cathedral

Submitted by danielwettling on

Hello,

Recently I noticed, that there is an extension next to the St. John's cathedral, called Li Hall. When I search older pictures or drawings, that particular building has never been marked or mentioned. The Li Hall's exterior however looks like the one of the main cathedral.

Would anyone knows, when this part of church has been built. I have asked several staff members, but none of them knew .

Thanks a lot and kind regards,  Daniel

Imperial War Museum Film Archives (AFPU)

Submitted by AndySC on

The Imperial War Museum has a public archive of WW2 era military film shot by the AFPU (Army Film & Photographic Unit).

This is the home page : https://film.iwmcollections.org.uk/

There is plenty to explore on line here on Hong Kong and other locations of course.  It looks like work in progress as not all the links have a film at the time of this post.  But still worth a browse!

KGV School 1962-1964

Submitted by Janise Rutherford on

I was born in Hong Kong in 1948 and  was a pupil at KGV Junion School in the 1950s until I was sent to boarding school in England aged 8.   I then returned to Hong kong and was a pupil at KGV School between 1962-1964.   My name was then Janise Walker and I lived in St Georges Mansions, 141 Argyle Street.   I wondered if there is anyone out there who would remember me and perhaps get in touch via this site if that is possible.

Secret Valley between Tai Hang and Quarry (Eod Depot)

Submitted by MikeB on

As an avid hiker I stumbled on a trail that leads from Mount Butler Road down to the valley creek which runs in a South Western direction from Tiger Balm to the quarry by Jardine's lookout.

There's a myriad of terraces, relicts, overgrown trails, stairs, which seem to have not been visited for decades. Even the trails from Various map sources were

very hard to find if not existing anymore. We def ended crashing through the undergrowth to reach the creek which wasnt without danger.
