1940-softball.jpeg submitted by Stephen Rapley

Submitted by Winchr on

Stephen Rapley posted a softball team 1940 photo in which were named Geroge Winch, Zimerman brothers etc.  My father is George Winch.

Stephen's father William Rapley was at Diocesan Boys School, I guess they were both at DBS at about the same time.

I was wondering if Stpehen would have anymore photos with, particularly sports related as they seem to play a lot of sports together - particularly cricket; and if he would have any of the  newspaper articles on these sports events.

Thanks very much

John Cherry Inkson

Hello everyone,

Thank you for letting me join. I have really enjoyed reading about your time in HK.

I am the grandson of John Cherry Inkson,  unfortunately he passed away when I was young and I never really got to know the man. I would love to find out more about his time in HK, his career, and any personal stories or photos. Also and directions to where I could engage in further research. Pretty much finished with web searches !

Kindest Regards,

Lloyd Inkson

Kowloon and Sekkong 1952/53

Submitted by Valerie Eggleton on

As an Army family we were posted to Hong Kong in 1952 and were billeted first in the Melbourne Hotel, Kowloon for several weeks before being moved to our new quarters in Sekkong.  I attended the Minden Row School in Kowloon, just off Nathan Road, and continued there even after we lived in Sekkong, travelling by Army truck to Tai Po Market station and then by steam train down to Kowloon.  I have vivid memories of our 18 months in Hong Kong at that time and would love to share if this interests anyone.

Sheila Feltwell (Whitley) and mum Hannah Whitley (MacQueen)

First off, many thanks to two Davids and others who have provided some fantastic and wide ranging information.  It not only fills many gaps, but corrects various of my ideas. I will pull all this togther in a chronology.  As a child and in my early teens I always felt Sheila was an interesting and warm person.  From the information so far, it is also obvious that she and her mother were close.

Employee Record - Hong Kong Police - Circa 1890's

Submitted by rsouter on

Hi there,

I am trying to identify the period of employment of my grandfather (A Scotsman named Alexander Nichol) who served with the Hong Kong Police Force in the 1890's prior to his joining the Chinese Maritime Customs Service in 1898. Perhaps I am not searching in the most fruitfull manner however any help with this pursuit would be greatfully appreciated.

Cheers,

Tai Hang Village, CWB, c.1941

Submitted by nickwilson1956 on

Eighty years is a long way to be looking back, but it is natural that I should continue to take an interest in where my wife, then aged three, lived when the Japanese attacked HK in December 1941. It is of particular interest because it was in Tai Hang village while waiting to draw water from the village stand pipe ( I understand  by that time the mains in the area had already been destroyed) her mother was killed by shell fire.
