Hong Kong Cemetery

Submitted by christoph on

Today I spend a day at the Happy Valley Cemetery. Thanks to Patricia Lim it is now so easy to spot the graves! I have already a collection of german graves from the time I lived in Hong Kong. But now I could add a lot more. I took over 100 photos, sweaty and thirsty in the baking sun. Coming to Hong Kong for my vacation from a mediocre summer in Germany, I enjoyed the heat and the humidity. But I had one problem: how can I get to the area opposite Aberdeen Tunnel; i.e. Sections: 37, 38... If anyone could help I would be happy to bake again in Happy Valley.

Writers in Hong Kong, February 1938

Submitted by brian edgar on

In February 1938 three of Britain's most eminent writers were in Hong Kong.

The poet W. H. Auden and the novelist Christopher Isherwood were on their way to the mainland to write a book on the Sino-Japanese War. They stayed with Duncan Sloss (University Vice Chancellor) and met Sir Vandeleur Grayburn and others.

Dutch roots in Hong Kong

Submitted by Paul.Zimmerman on

The Central and Western District Council has agreed with a proposal to sign post ‘Dutch Lane’ with a display explaining the history - it will go up later in 2011. I discovered this lane just up from Bowen Road around 2000 when I used to live in the area. Locals using the path told me they called it Hor Lan (Wan) Qeng – 荷蘭()徑.

In The Web by Peter Hall

Submitted by anonymous-01 on

I have been looking for a copy of this book off and on for some time as I remember Liz Chater posting a message saying it was being updated by the author. Has this happened I wonder?

I have had no luck so far and would appreciate it if anybody could point me in the right direction. Better still, if anybody is in contact with Mr Hall I would very much like my interest to be passed on to him.

David can tell him how to reach me.

Thanks,

Sean

Geni.com has an online collaborative family tree.

Their motto "Everyone's related"

If you are a descendant of an old Hong Kong Anglo-Asian family (ususally known as Eurasian today) than bop on over there and try your luck.

It is a bit of a Wild West site in that anyone can change the information on there.
