Help with history exhibit on the Peak

Submitted by annelisec on

Hi,

I've been hired, after David's introduction, to be the historical consultant on the history of the Peak for an exhibition.

Would any of you in Hong Kong be willing to loan your photos or any artifacts ?

hfsiu, I especailly know that you have a lovely collection of photos and wonder if you would be willing to lend them out ?

e.g. Did you ever buy this photo ? http://gwulo.com/node/5600

Thanks,
Annelise

Flying Squirrels in Hong Kong?

Submitted by Richard Muirhead on

I came across a Chinese language web site a few weeks ago which described a cave in a coastal region of Hong Kong as a "flying squirrel cave" and almost  a few words later as "bat" cave. Have flying squirrels ever been reported from Hong Kong? Squirrels - yes.

Also, the "holy grail" of Hong Kong mystery animals - the photo of the 1940/41 Hong Kong dugong. Please,God,where is it?!

1966 Peak Road landslide

Submitted by David on

The CEDD's "When Hillsides Collapse" has a couple of photos of this landslide. They show a section of Peak Road just below / east of the junction with Guildford and Barker Roads had fallen away. The caption reads:

A section of the Peak Road near Magazine Gap collapsed during the rainstorm on 12 June 1966. As the road was the only route between the Peak and the rest of Hong Kong Island, residents of the Peak were temporarily isolated.

Governor of Hong Kong Rolls Royce

Submitted by QF787 on

Hi, I am new to the site and find it very interesting as I spent sometime in Hong Kong in the 1980s on business.

I am extremely interested in finding pictures of the Governor's Rolls Royce as I am working with a company to produce a 1/43 model of the car.

If anyone ia able to assist it would be greatly appreciated as there are not many photos on Google to work from. From what I have found I presume the Rolls Royce was black, is this correct?

Many thanks in advance

Regards

Bob

Causeway Bay history exhibition

Submitted by 80sKid on

the Hysan company has put on an impressive three-floor exhibition, with maps, models and photos, of Causeway Bay and its history. Downstairs the focus is on the old Lee Theatre and cinemas in the area, 2nd floor is more broad and the third floor focuses on restaurants and Hysan developments over the decades. Worth going to if you're in the area. It's in Lee Garden. Lots about Jardines, the old Lee garden etc
