He arrived in Hong Kong in 1888 as a Cadet, then after learning Chinese he was appointed to a succession of roles in the local civil service. In 1901 he became the Registrar General, and remained in that role until retiring in 1912 on the grounds of ill health.
Local sites named after him:
Hercules George Robert Robinson, 1st Baron Rosmead, GCMG, PC , was a British colonial administrator who became the 5th Governor of Hong Kong.
On 17 June 1859, aged 35, Robinson was appointed as Governor of Hong Kong, the youngest in Hong Kong colonial history, as which he served until March 1865. On 28 June 1859, he was knighted in recognition of his services for introducing coolie labour into the territory.
Father of Joseph Anderson (Hung Kam-Shing) and Henry Graham Anderson (Hung Kam-Ning) - mother was thought to be Annie Sawgan. See Peter Hall's book.
John Graham Anderson was son of Andrew Anderson surgeon to 92nd Highlanders from Selkirk in borders of Scotland. He worked in HK for House of Dent. He was born in Ireland because Andrew was the surgeon there for the 92nd.
He married Rosa MM Pollard daughter of Edward Hutchinson Pollard in HK at St John's Cathedral in Aug 1864.

According to Carl Smith Card 00086365GIF Edward George Burke married Maria Luisa Moore, widow of Jacobus (James) Moore at St. Joseph's Church on 11 February 1893. Carl Smith mysteriously adds "here on ship", so I don't know if the couple were married on board ship and that the marriage was later formalised at St Joseph's Church. I believe that Maria (Mary) may have been the mother of Annie Louisa Moore Burke who married John Olson jnr., my grandmother's half-brother and that Edward may therefore have been her step-father. Edward Burke's parents were Edward and Emilia Dyer of Dublin.
Young daughter of William Henry Brereton Esq (later QC) from his first mariage with Eliza Jane Percy (nee Scholes)
