As the Cenotaph recently had its 100th birthday, it's a good time to see what other buildings reached a major milestone this year.
50-year-old buildings:
The best known building on this list is Jardine House, or 'Connaught Centre' to give it its original name.
75-year-old buildings:
These buildings in TST don't jump out as having any historical significance, but they were some of the first buildings built in Hong Kong after the end of WW2.
100-year-old buildings
I've already mentioned the Cenotaph, so for a second centenarian I'll pick the Po Leung Kuk Chan Au Big Yan Home for the Elderly, originally built as the Western Fire Station. I lived around Shek Tong Tsui and Kennedy Town for several years, and would regularly pass by this building. Alas, I took it for granted and don't have any photos of it - if you live nearby, please could you upload a photo of the building for me? UPDATE: Thank you to jpkgwuko16 for uploading this photo of the building:
125-year-old buildings
The cluster of DEL buildings housed Defence Electric Lights - more commonly known as searchlights. With Stonecutters Island off limits, we're not sure exactly how many of them have survived.
The clubhouse at the Deep Water Bay golf course is definitely still with us though.
150-year-old buildings
1873 must have been an auspicious year for building temples.
175-year-old buildings
2023 is a good year for buildings' birthdays, with at least one building surviving in each of the anniversary groups. Congratulations to Bishop's House as the oldest of them all!

If you know of any birthday buildings that we're missing, please go ahead and make a Place page for them. They will automatically be added to the correct list. And of course if you can add any memories, facts or photos, they're always very welcome. (You can add a comment to this or any page on the Gwulo website, and it is easy to upload a photo.)
