Looking for 1970's photojournalist awards

Submitted by antiphony on

Hello,

My grandfather was a photojournalist in the 60's and 70's and worked for Ming Pao. His name is Ip Chiu Ding and he was one of the early employees and worked closely with Jing Yong (Louis Cha). Anyway, he once traveled to China and during the trip took pictures of pandas. It was a set of photos showing the pandas marching in for mealtime and one particular photo shows four of them sitting together looking like they are playing mahjong. This photo made the front page of the newspaper and won some photojournalist award.

ROLLITT family time in Hong Kong

I would appreciate anyone’s feedback on how to research my grandfather and my great-grandparents who were based in Hong Kong sometime between 1911 and 1921.

It is this period of their lives that I have particular interest in.

My great grandparents:

14 Bowen Road

Submitted by ceri chisholm on

Hi David,

I have tried to log in and make comments, but this does not seem to be working. I have some corrections to make regarding photos of me, and ones taken by me which my brother Alun Chisholm aka 'Marlowe' has posted on this site.

Firstly, I want to add information about photos taken in the garden at 14 Bowen Road, which feature my father, Alexander Chisholm, my brother Ian, and an image of my father, Ian and myself (not Jane) as Alun has asserted. The latter I think must date to 1957 (I was born in Feb 1956).

Diamond Hill Quarry Structures

Submitted by HighlandPaddyHK on

Dear all,

A friend of mine went hiking up Fung Mei Path in Diamond Hill where the quarry used to be and noticed these structures. She assumed I'd know their exact purpose - well, I told her I guessed they were ventilation shafts, but no idea why a quarry would have them? Anyone well-versed in granite quarrying techniques from the 1950's that might know what they were for?

Dolphins

Submitted by Li Lai ting on

I was very disappointed to find that the childrens book about the Dolphins does not ship to Europe (other than UK).  This is a message that needs spreading.

I wanted 3 copies.  If anyone knows of a way round this - or a link to the relevant Bookazine page, I'd be glad to know.

Reginald Charles Spencer & Geoffrey William Spencer

Submitted by Bill Peacock on

The above named people are my maternal uncle & his cousin respectively. Both served in the Royal Engineers in Hong Kong, to where my Uncle Reg was posted on 16th October 1937. Both died on the Lisbon Maru when it was sunk on 1st/2nd October 1942. In researching my family tree, I have gained lots of knowledge about their deaths and broad information about their military service. The gaps in my knowledge concerns their lives in Hong Kong before it fell to the Japanese. I do have some newspaper cuttings about Reginald winning a boxing tournament during that period (30th March 1938).
