Hung Hom Ferry Piers – A Timeline

Submitted by Klaus on

Currently, a lot of comments are posted on Gwulo regarding the ferry piers in Hung Hom. Many of these are by simtang who was able to reveal the timeline of the different piers. I thought it would be valuable to collect all comments and create a summary of the development. This might not be fully correct, so any comments are welcome.

CO 129 at TNA Kew

Submitted by patricia on

One of the joys of life has been going to the National Archives in Kew and lugging a large CO 129 box back to ones desk. Opened up, the great tome of correspondence between Hong Kong and the Colonial Office in London is a treasure trove. Of course, there's the pages one's looking for - but there's always the unexpected, too. Is that a map folded up there? What's that about? Oh! an early underpass sceme! What's this letter? Wow! correspondence from Florence Nightingale!

Tiger Balm Hong Kong factory - where?

Submitted by philk on

Following on from the recent discussions about Haw Par Mansion and Tiger Balm Gardens and the mystery pavilions (Gwulo.com/node/52422), I purchased the Tiger Balm Gardens book from the Haw Par Music bookshop inside the mansion (it is currently available at $250 if you are interested to buy).

The book mentions in passing the Hong Kong factory that produced Tiger Balm and includes an illustration (see below) of the factory building but makes no mention of its location. Does anyone know where it was located?
