Japanese War Time Tunnel at Black Point

Submitted by KrisM on

I was doing a bit of unrelated research when I came across an interesting EIA report (https://www.epd.gov.hk/eia/register/report/eiareport/eia_1252006/html/e…). It seems that back in 2006 there was a plan to build a Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) receiving terminal at Black Point (https://goo.gl/maps/eTRsMMFojdxTUNu2A), though it appears to have been subsequently abandoned.

Granville Road

Submitted by Ian Brodie on

[Update; now identified as Granville Road]

Hi,

Some help required in identifying this street.

The photo was taken in 1958 by my father. Judging by it's position in the rest of the series, it's probably TST or Jordan. (It comes between one of Mansion House & one of the Alhambra Theatre).

The street is too narrow to be a major thorough fare like Nathan Road, and too wide to be one of the side streets. If it wasn't for the car licence plates, I'd even doubt it was HK.

Thanks

Jimmy Tsui / JNT Fashion Brand / 1960s-80s Hong Kong

Submitted by Beylogan on

My partner and I are making a documentary about Jimmy Tsui, a neglected Hong Kong fashion icon, who founded and ran the JMT brand from the 60s to the 80s. He dressed many years names, including Sophia Loren and Brigitte Bardot when they visited Hong Kong, as well as all the local Hong Kong divas. Jimmy is still with us, and we have been able to interview him at length about his memories of the golden era of Hong Kong fashion. I would love to hear from anyone who knew Jimmy in his heyday, or who remembers the JMT brand.

Magazine Gap Bridge 1941

Submitted by bob on

Hi,

As a long time resident I enjoy reading personnel accounts of life in HK

Having read and re-read Charles Barmans almost unbelievable story in "Resist to the end" about his time as Quatermaster in 4th Medium Battery of the first HK/SRA, One thing that Iam confused about. Where is (or was) the Magazine Gap Road Bridge that he refers to several times? I have lived here for 46 years and know that area well ( obviously not that well!!). Can any one out there help?

Information request

Submitted by Grahame Roberts on

I have just come across some envelopes of my father who was in Hong Kong and i know visited Australia at the end of WW2.

Can anyone point me in the direction of what the Malaria and Hygine Unit No 7 was involved in, what ship they were assigned to etc and help me understand the abbreviations:

D/Jx 731593, Mess 24.  Was that his service number and what does the D/Jx mean.

What is F.T.P   R.A.F.T.  mean.

Thank you in anticipation

Growing up in Hong Kong in the 1950s

Submitted by peak mansion r… on

My family and I lived in Peak Mansions from 1951-1954. My dad was in the Navy and was chief Engineer in the dockyard. We were housed on the Peak, as I had 2 baby brothers and it was said that the temperature was 10 degrees cooler there. We lived in flats 6 and 16 (not sure which way  round) and we were moved so that our flat could be refurbished. I remember that my room had been a bathroom as there were the remains of a lavatory and the walls were tiled.
