Dr. Nicolson (sometimes called Nicholson in wartime sources) qualified in 1924 at Glasgow University and was registered to practie in Hong Kong in 1925, eventually becoming Port doctor.

He remained outside Stanley in 1942 to help Selwyn-Clarke with his public health work in occupied Hong Kong. He was interned on May 7, 1943 in the wake of the latter's arrest.

At some point after the war he emigrated to the USA, living in Sacramento, California.

Jessie Macdonald married Adam Holland on 25th June 1914 in Glasgow, Scotland. She had attended grammar school on a scholarship and wanted to train to become a teacher. She was also an accomplished artist. In 1915 she had her first child, Isobel Morrison Holland; in 1917 Alistair Wilson Holland was born; and in 1919 or 1920 her third child Joan Macdonald Holland was born.

Thanks to Wally Murison for the following information about his grandfather. Wally writes:

My grandfather Chief Detective Inspector William Murison KPM served in the Hong Kong Police between 1895 and 1923. I served in Hong Kong between 1977 and 2008 (officially retiring in 2009).

Please find attached some information that I have gathered for my younger relatives. You may find it of some interest. The two photographs of the Kings Police Medal presentation are copied from photos in my possession.

James Hill, A93. He was one of three Japanese language translators used by Franklin Gimson during the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong. He could speak Cantonese (3 certificates), Hakka (2 certificates), Hoklo (1 certificate) and Japanese (4 certificates).

Born 4th April 1905 in Dundee, Scotland.

Died 14th February 1984 at Harefield Hospital Middlesex. His ashes were placed on the grave of his deceased wife, Nora Hill (nee Jack) on her grave at Barnhill Cemetery, Broughty Ferry, Scotland.

George Gerrard came to Hong Kong in 1914 to work for the Taikoo Dock Company.

He was interned in Stanley, where he acted as a Block Quartermaster. He was repatriated on a hospital ship having lost about ten stone in weight. He returned to work in Hong Kong, eventually retiring to Whitley Bay (now Tyne and Wear).

Jim Shepherd first came to Hong Kong in 1926 with his regiment. In 1928 he left the army and joined the Hong Kong Police.

He was interned in Stanley Camp during the Japanese occupation.

In 1996 he published a short autobiography: Silks, Satins, Gold Braid and Monkey Jackets.
