I hadn't seen a photo taken from this angle before. Very interesting. Thanks for posting.
It was taken looking east towards Gough Hill, probably from Mount Kellett Road.
Starting at 10 o'clock and going clockwise, the buildings are;
Stewart Terrace. The stepped row.
Dodwell Mansions. The tower block at the right end of 1.
Cheltondale. Above 1 & 2.
Slemish. On the right of 3.
Peak Police Station. On the right of 4.
Gough Hill Quarters. Two 2-storey houses on the skyline well to the right of 5.
No. 274 The Peak. Now No.71 Peak Road. Straight down from 6.
Ho Tung Gardens. Straight down from 7, partly hidden behind 9.
Dunnottar. Between 8 and the camera.
Peak School. Only a small part is visible on the left edge of the photo below 1.
White building. I think this is on the site formerly occupied by Stokes Bungalow. If so, its address in the 1950's would have been 261 The Peak, but I don't know its name.
I believe 5 & 10 are still standing. I'm sure 3, 4, 6, 8 & 9 have gone. Not sure about 1, 2, 7 & 11.
Thank you for all this detailed information. I couldn't orientate it, even though my parents did live at 90A Peak Road, right next door to The Peak Police Station in the 1980s. If that's Dunottar at the front with The Falls behind it, I wonder if this could have been taken from Peak Pavilions where my grandparents were living when this photo was taken.
Yes, I think you are correct. The other photo of The Peak that you posted gives the reverse view and shows how Peak Pavilions Government Quarters, Dunnottar and Ho Tung Gardens line-up nicely.
The book Guy mentioned is "Hong Kong" by Harold Ingrams, H.M. Stationery Office, London, 1952. It's free to read on Internet Archive, but I think you have to register first.

Corrections welcome, indeed probably necessary!
