What currency was used in Hong Kong prior to the 1860s?
Hi there
I am a collector of mostly ancient coins and I live in Hong Kong. I was just wondering about the currency that was used in Hong Kong prior to the 1860s?
Sorry, we don't have any photos with this tag yet.

I just typed in "Villa Blanca Hong Kong" in Chrome on Safari - then the new "History" tab. How long has the "history" tab been there ?
I was in Lisbon recently and decided to search for historical items relating to Macau whilst touring the city. Fortunately, the following website at :

Reports about the damage caused by a typhoon usually only compile facts – how many ships, houses, piers etc. were damaged or even destroyed, and the number of human casualties and deaths. I couldn’t find reports earlier than 1874.
Hi all, I am a student from secondary school (Grade 9) in Hong Kong doing a history report about left-wing schools' education and the 1967 riots. However there are few resources about the left-wing school, such as Heong To Middle School and Piu Kiu Middle School.
I will go to the CUHK library for more resources. Apart form them, can anyone suggest more information or resources about the schools and the riots, especially primary sources? Thanks!
Hello David,
Do you know if working-class women from the UK worked in Hong Kong before WWII or during the war? I have conducted some preliminary research which says that British women did work as nannies and cooks at mainly ex pat homes in Hong Kong. I do know that more educated women were employed as teachers and sometimes in nursing profession.
According to a list of German Children made in 1939 my grandfather Hans Melchior (and his 1.5 year old daughter Karin Melchior) lived at 177 Island Road. Does anyone have a photo of the house that stood there in the 1930's? Thanks in advance.
