I note that the stanley diary for the 30th may 1942 refers to the stanley tiger as possibly being one of those that occassionly swam across from the mainland to the island does this give my first contribution to Gwulo some long awaited credibility?

Just added a new place on the map: http://gwulo.com/node/15988

This is a building at Tai Po Road, Piper's Hill. It looks like a residential building from maybe the 1950s; anyone knows more about it? Who owned it/lived there, when was it built, etc. It's in pretty decent shape considering the obvious lack of maintenance. Doors are locked with newish looking padlocks, winders are intact, I didn't try to find a way in.

It is unknown when the first Hong Kong vehicle registrations took place. Probably before 1910.

I was testing my memory on the captioned subject and double checked in wikipedia:

However, I was puzzled by the claim that for New Territories numbers, '12' was replaced by '0'.  Wasn't it the other way round?

These photos are interesting to see, both as a record of the fighting, and as a view of Hong Kong in the 1940s.

I don't know much about them, but here are the few I've heard of:

I am curious as to the origin of the subject path.

1. When was it built

2. Why

3. Who built it

4. Why was it named Mills Chung path 苗鍾徑 

5. Were Mills and Chung two different persons and if so what were their background

Sorry, I'm lowering the tone of this forum, but I'm just typing some of the 1916 Jurors list, and I've found a man after my own heart.  Benjamin James Spittles, works for AS Watson and gives his residence as the Wine Department.  Ahhh!
