Florence Mercedes QUINLAN (aka Mary Liguori ) [1897-1971]

Florence Mercedes Quinlan was better known as Sister Mary Liguori. She served the Maryknoll Sisters and arrived in Hong Kong in 1924.

After the fall of Hong Kong, she was residing at Maryknoll Convent School. On 8 February 1942, eighteen Sisters of the school including Sister Mary Liguori were interned at Stanley Camp. 

She was released from camp in June 1942 and repatriated to the United States.

Alice Elizabeth MANNING (aka Santa Maria) [1894-1982]

Alice Elizabeth Manning was better known as Sister Santa Maria. She served the Maryknoll Sisters and was assigned to Hong Kong in 1931. From 1932 to 1937, she taught at Holy Sprit School and thereafter at Maryknoll Convent School in Kowloon Tong.

After the fall of Hong Kong, she was residing at Maryknoll Convent School. On 8 February 1942, eighteen Sisters of the school including Sister Santa Maria were interned at Stanley Camp. 

She was released from camp in June 1942 and repatriated to the United States. 

Dorothy Catherine KANE (aka Joseph Marie) [1905-1995]

Dorothy Catherine Kane was better known as Sister Joseph Marie. She served the Maryknoll Sisters and arrived in Hong Kong in 1930. She initially taught in Kowloon, then at Holy Spirit School and later Maryknoll Convent School in Kowloon Tong.

After the fall of Hong Kong, she was residing at Maryknoll Convent School. On 8 February 1942, eighteen Sisters of the school including Sister Joseph Marie were interned at Stanley Camp. 

She was released from camp in June 1942 and repatriated to the United States.

Frances Marion GARDNER [1909-????]

Sister Frances Marion Gardner served the Maryknoll Sisters. She was in Hong Kong in 1938.

After the fall of Hong Kong, she was residing at Maryknoll Convent School in Kowloon Tong. On 8 February 1942, eighteen Sisters of the school including Sister Frances Marion Gardner were interned at Stanley Camp. 

Sister Frances Marion Gardner was released from camp in June 1942 and repatriated to the United States. She returned to Hong Kong in 1946.

Margaret DONNELLY (aka Mary St. Bernard) [1887-1970]

Margaret Donnelly was better known as Sister Mary St. Bernard and served the Maryknoll Sisters. She was assigned to Hawaii in 1931 and later arrived in Hong Kong.

After the fall of Hong Kong, she was residing at Maryknoll Convent School in Kowloon Tong. On 8 February 1942, eighteen Sisters of the school including Sister Mary St. Bernard were interned at Stanley Camp. 

Sister Mary St. Bernard was released from camp in June 1942 and repatriated to the United States.

Margaret Ann BRACHTESENDE (aka Mary Amata) [1909-1988]

Margaret Ann Brachtesende was better known as Sister Mary Amata. She served the Maryknoll Sisters and arrived in Hong Kong in 1937.

In December 1941, she resided in the convent in Holy Spirit School on Caine Road. After the fall of Hong Kong, the Sisters at the convent worked at Queen Mary Hospital to help care for the wounded. On 21 January 1942, Sister Mary Amata and her group of Sisters from Hong Kong Island were interned at Stanley Camp.

Sister Mary Amata was released from camp in June 1942 and repatriated to the United States.

Gladys SAILE [1896-1987]

Gladys Saile went to China around 1931. She was an executive for an American airplane manufacturer based in Shanghai. The company had a plant in China for making planes for the Chinese government.

Gladys Saile was in Hong Kong during the Japanese invasion and later interned at Stanley Camp. She was repatriated to the United States in 1942.
