Joan Crawford was the daughter of the superintendent of North Point Power Station. She was present at the siege of the station during the December 1941 hostilities and helped treat the wounded.

The Supplement to the London Gazette, 13 June 1946 records the award of her M.B.E.:
Miss Dorothy Phyllis GEEN, Colonial Nursing Service, Matron, Hong Kong Government Medical Department. For services during internment.
Her husband was C R Lee.
She accompanied the Japanese when they made their first "Peace Mission" from Kowloon to Hong Kong on the 13th Dec 1941, requesting the British surrender.
In Dec 1941 he was the Governor's Private Secretary.
