Thanks to Annemarie Evans for inviting me on to the Christmas edition of her weekly radio show, Hong Kong Heritage. You can listen to the recording of the show at:
https://podcast.rthk.hk/podcast/item.php?pid=164&eid=193475&year=2021&list=1&lang=en-US
It was divided into four parts, each part starting at the time listed below. (I'm talking to Annemarie for the middle section, parts 2 and 3).
- Part 1 - 0:40 - Ralph Goodwin's escape from Shamshuip POW camp in 1944. (Further reading: Ralph Goodwin's account of his escape, with commentary by Gordon Andreassend.)
- Part 2 - 18:33 - A look at 100 years of Christmas photos on the Gwulo website. (See all the photos.)
- Part 3 - 28:33 - Colin McEwan's escape from Hong Kong by Motor Torpedo Boat on Christmas Day, 1941. (Read this page from Colin's diary, along with other diary pages from Hong Kong that were written on 25 December 1941.)
- Part 4 - 41:00 - Maps of Asia and Hong Kong, dating from the 16th to the 20th centuries. These are currently on show but the exhibition ends on 8 Jan, so the holidays are a good chance to catch them. (Details of The 33rd annual Mapping of Asia Exhibition, held at Wattis Fine Art on Hollywood Road.)
