Sfax captured with Italian General Staff?

My Love, I hope we'll be able to laugh at it someday but this morning I'm in the mood to write a farewell letter!  We had a shock this week - Cressall the Puisne Judge died.  He caught "Landry's ascending paralysis" - it starts in your feet and goes right up.  He was eventually really suffocated or drowned in liquid in his own lungs which he couldn't cough up - an iron lung or oxygen might have helped.

Drizzly & cold.

Did nothing all day.

Grayburn and Streatfield are moved again.

This time they're taken by car to Stanley Prison where they're held in much improved conditions. Each has a cell to himself and exercise periods and baths are provided.

Their arrival is recorded in the diary of George Wright-Nooth:

Grayburn brought to Stanley chained to Streatfield....

It seems from Streatfield's account that they were both roped up, but not to each other.

Sources:

13th April Grayburn and Streatfield taken away in a.m. bound with rope. Despondent.

Dull & cold. Felt very quiet all day.

Grayburn & another Euro. arrested and brought to gaol.

CIVILIAN INTERNEES. (Source 98)

A list of names with a view to carrying out a repatriation scheme has been sent to the Colonial Secretary, Mr. Gimson, who is interned at Stanley, for approval but it is generally believed nothing will come of this as Gimson is said to be against it. He is reported to be firmly convinced that no one should be repatriated who will be urgently needed when the Colony is recaptured.

Two more letters from Australia have arrived; one a fortnight ago from Chère, dated August 5th (quite recent!) telling us that Pop has been stationed or transferred to Perth. Marvellous! Now they can really be with each other for some time. The second letter from Pop arrived a day or two ago. It has taken a long time to arrive as it was written and dispatched a day after his first one. Now I am hoping to hear from Betty and again from Ceylon. I hope they keep on writing and don’t wait till they get a reply, because we are still not allowed to write.
