Timeline

Dorothy Elizabeth DARKIN (née DAVIES) [1931-1972]

Submitted by O'Loughlin on Tue, 01/29/2019 - 15:53

Dorothy Elizabeth Darkin née Davies (born sometime between April and June 1931) was married to a Rick Darkin (I think maybe Richard Eric son of Norman Darkin?) who was a Superintendent in the RHKP in Mongkok, Kowloon at the time of her death. We believe she had left the UK for New Zealand as a nurse in the late 1950s before ending up in HK. She had two sons (Angus and Rodney) who would have been born in the 1960s. The last known address was in Broadcast Drive, Kowloon.

Fort Victoria [????-c.1861]

Old Chinese Fort taken over and named Fort Victoria by  British Soldiers

When Pottinger returned to Hong Kong on 15th October 1841 he was displeased with Alexander Robert Johnson, the first administrator of Hong Kong for, amongst other things:

he failed to carry out instructions to demolish a small British fort, Victoria fort, on the Kowloon peninsula, whose evacuation had been agreed on.

Hello

I'm interested to hear from anyone who might have informaiton and or pictures of what Austin Avene and the surrounding area looked like in the early 1960s. I am a foundling who was left on the stairwell of number 9 Austin avenue that "block" when last I visited back in 2012 was offices and a night club
But I would love to know more about that area what was there where the local police station might have been

Many thanks
