Moslem Recreation Club

Submitted by eurasian_david on

I spotted in the league football second division section of the news in November 1909 a team from the M.R.C. (Moslem Recreation Club). There were a number of recreation clubs in the early history of Hong Kong to cater to all sorts of people residing in the Colony, but this was the first time I have heard of the existence of a M.R.C.

Leonard A. Adams in China and Hong Kong 1940's

Submitted by Ken Adams on

I am looking for any memories or information about my father Leonard A. Adams who was the UK Consular Agent for HK Refugees at Kukong during WW 2 where I was born in 1944.  After the war he served as a refugee relief officer for the HK Colonial government from 1945-47 when my mother died and we returned to England and then later moved to the USA. During 1970-72 he served as commander of the Hong Kong Salvation Army until his illness and subsequent death of cancer in January, 1973.

My only memory with Kai Tak

Submitted by gary.c on

Hi guys. I am new to gwulo.com. Nice to meet you all and learn the history about Hong Kong from all of you.

I took the pictures below last year from Kai Tak Airport Photo Exhibition at Mikiki, San Po Kong. Before the Airport’s closure, I was still very little living in Sham Shui Po. Even though I had never been to the Airport, I was amazed by aeroplanes and engine noise flying over my head. The rest of my impression about Kai Tak is from TV dramas and movies.

Do you have special memories or nostalgia with Kai Tak?

Frank Bowden, the man Raleigh Bicycles

Submitted by ACH on

I watched a documentary about Raleigh Bicycles last night and its founder, Frank Bowden, later to be known as Sir Frank Bowden, 1st Baronet, apparently 'made a fortune in property delelopment in Hong Kong in the 1870's':

He presumably must have been quite a well-known figure in Hong Kong at the time - has any Gwulo researcher come across him?

I am a Master's student of journalsim at the University of Hong Kong.

I am working on a school project about the history of Kowloon Tong, so I am wondering any members have some knwoledge or understanding on the subject matter, especailly between 1960s and 1990s when the business of prostitution was thriving in around that area.
