I wonder if anyone can help with any information relating to a major Scouting event held in the football ground of Wah Yan College (Kowloon) in either 1957 or 1958.
At the time I was a just a greenhorn Cub scout of age about 9 or 10 from a Government primary school, and I think we were taken along just to make up the numbers. After about 20 minutes walking/marching from the Yaumati train station, we got onto a football field and we settled ourselves near a sand pit at one end of an athletics track made for long-jump. Hundreds of other Scout troops from all over HK had also been arriving. The rally culminated in a grand inspection by some high ranking official. I did not know at the time that the grassy football ground that we were on was part of Wah Yan College. It was quite a long time afterwards that I’d figure out by backreferencing that it was indeed the football ground of my secondary school. This was because I’d remembered the sand-pit area and the refectory across the football field where we could buy refreshments.
