Frederick Solomon CULLEN (aka Fred) [1889-1945]

Frederick Solomon Cullen was a storekeeper in the Hong Kong & Whampoa Dockyard and resided on site.

He was a Private with the HKVDC during the Battle of Hong Kong. After the fall of Hong Kong, he was interned at Sham Shui Po Camp. Corporal Fred Cullen died on 2 March 1945 and is buried in Stanley Military Cemetery.

Vera Dorothy Alexandra SILCOCKS [1902-1972]

Vera Silcocks arrived in Hong Kong in 1927. She was a missionary and teacher at Ying Wa Girls' School and became the School's headmistress in 1939. After the fall of Hong Kong, she was interned at Stanley Camp.

She retired in 1967 after 40 years of service with the School. To celebrate the School's 105th anniversary in 2005, a DVD was released regarding her life and long service.

Hannah Gertrude WITTENBACH (née BLANCHETT) [1905-1993]

Hannah Gertrude Blanchett married Rev. Henry August Wittenbach in Christ Church at Shameen on 10 April 1928. She was was the eldest daughter of Rev. Charles Isaac Blanchett and Annie Walsh of the Church Missionary Society based in Canton.

Delwyn Vaughan REES [1895-1974]

Delwyn Vaughan Rees was a missionary doctor, born in 1895, one of six children.  He served in the mission field for 30 years in China and then practised for 10 years as a doctor in Hong Kong.

Walter John BUSH [1882-1968]

Walter John Bush was a young coalminer from Rugeley in Staffordshire before joining the RGA in May 1903 and sailing at the end of that year to HKG. He spent five years there, initially with 80 Coy RGA and then 88 Coy RGA - I think mostly at Lyemun Barracks.
