Incidentally Edward isn't listed ((in Greg Leck's book)) with the surname Reed, but Manwaring - although we always knew him as Reed.  He is listed under Manwaring as son of Mrs. Manwaring; there was a much younger Manwaring boy too, named Gerald.    A few years back he was mentioned in group emails.
