The (Royal) Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force's original operational base was within RAF Kai Tak. After the closure of RAF Kai Tak in 1978, the operational base was gradually relocated to the civilian side of Kai Tak Airport in 1979.
As the base and surrounding area were later required for the establishment of additional parking bays and taxiway improvement works, the facility was relocated to the then newly developed southern apron of Kai Tak Airport in August 1992. See here
