Sarah Smith Virtue was born on 28 October 1879, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. She married Andrew Logan in 1903 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Prior to the Japanese invasion, she was the housekeeper of the Repulse Bay Hotel. She was interned at Stanley Camp and later repatriated on the Teia Maru/Gripsholm in 1943. On the Gripsholm passenger manifest, her surname appears as "Logan-Virtue" and thus the confusion regarding her actual surname.

Less than a year after her return to Canada, Sarah Logan died on 15 November 1944, in Vancouver, B. C..
