George Gerrard
I have only recently found this web site which contains the diary of my Great Uncle George. I met him a few times when he came to stay with the family in the early 1960’s. I remember that he was quite a big man and didn’t speak about his time in Stanley camp. I learned about that time from my father who had been a doctor in the army and they shared an antipathy for the Japanese. I was a teenager at the time when he died and went to his funeral with my parents in Whitley Bay. When my father died I found a copy of the diary which I have read, I wish I had talked to him more about his life in Hong Kong between the wars. I also wonder about what happened to his wife Nell. I would be interested in communicating with any other family members. As a footnote the names George and Walter go back quite a long time in the family my Father was also a George Gerrard and I am a Walter.
