The historical North Point Battery was a British coastal defense installation established in 1879 along Hong Kong Island's northern shore to protect Victoria City. Dismantled around 1922, its legacy lives on via Fort Street just above King's Road, which gave the surrounding Fortress Hill district its name.
Legacy and Landmarks
- Fort Street: Named directly in honor of the former coastal battery site.
- Artifacts: Cannons discovered during the later development of Fort Street were preserved and relocated to the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence.
- Walking Routes: The area forms a staple of local historical walks starting from Oil Street (Oi! Art Space) up toward the old battery footprints near Fort Street.

Re: Empire State Theatre
It should be noted that the original caption reads:
Hong Kong, granite formation
Hong Kong. Deep weathering, Taika [Hei Ling Chau (island)].
The title of the photo should reflect that, the current title is misleading and reflects your personal opinion. I think it would be better to retain the original title and give your assessment in the box below or as a comment.
The Gwulo community thinks that the rock formation is the Deep Cutting on King’s Road in Quarry Bay Village. The North Point Battery would therefore not be visible in the photo.
