Hi h9430500, I originally was sure that the rocks in the photos would be somewhere near Taikoo, but now I think that your assumption is the more likely one.

The photographer, Robert Larimore Pendleton, was an American soil scientist - that's why he took the photos of the granite rocks and was interested in the weathering of these. It seems to be likely that he took the photos in one area and not several ones. What made me change my mind is this photo:

Hong Kong, waterway with ship in background, by Klaus

It likely shows "the small rock" from the opposite side which can be seen in his other photos.

The photo was likely taken from King's Road approximately near today's Tin Chong Street. In the distance, the Kowloon Range can be seen.

Compare this photo taken from a similar spot taken some 20 years later:

When I posted the first photo in 2020, the location below was proposed but dropped in favour of Taikoo.

I now think it is the correct place.

What we see in the photos on top of the granite rock could probably be the leftover of what was called "7" R.M.L. emplacement" in older maps.

I agree with h9430500 about the  North Point “granite formation “ photos and follow-up comments by Klaus. Gut feeling at the time the location was near the North Point Power Station and Empire Theatre. Thanks to you both for following-up.

A 7-inch R.M.L. (Rifled Muzzle-Loading) gun emplacement in Hong Kong is historically linked to late 19th-century British coastal defenses, notably at the Hong Kong Museum of the War of Resistance and Coastal Defence (formerly the Museum of Coastal Defence) in Shau Kei Wan. A 7-inch RML gun barrel is featured on display along the historical trail at the site.
