Bob Tatz writes:
I know her quite well as she sposored me at my Second Holy Communion at Easter 1942 in Stanley Camp, presided by Canadian Bishop.
She had missioned to Hong Kong in 1933. She did not return to Canada but instead elected to go to Canton in December 17, 1942. Sister St. Stanislas passed away in Canton on September 3,1945, a victim of T.B.
Clipping from The Montreal Gazette - Dec 1, 1945:
Local Missionary Nun’s Death in Canton Told
Rev. Sister St. Stanislaus of Kostka, nee Germaine Gonthier, of Montreal, died on September 3 at Canton, China, according to word received here.
The missionary nun entered the Society of the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception on September 8. 1914. In 1933, she was sent to the Chinese mission of Hong Kong. She survived the hectic days which followed the capture of the city by the Japanese in 1941 and experienced military internment in Stanley Camp from January 20 to December 17, 1942. Liberated with three of her companions, she was transferred to the mission at Canton, where she worked until her death.
