There are three large aircraft carriers as well as a second similar cruiser, which is quite a concentration of naval power. My guess is this shows the arrival of Admiral Harcourt and the British Pacific Fleet on August 30 1945.
I wonder where in Wanchai was the photographer located. Somewhere on Kennedy Road? Unfortunately the trees had blocked most of the buildings in the foreground for clues.
I think the hill on the left marks the upslope of Monmouth Terrace and the white patch of ground at left centre is Arsenal Street. The near-horizontal row of long houses is Queen's Road East. As the photographer is looking down onto trees in the foreground, the photo may have been taken from Bowen Road or Bowen Drive Service Reservoir area.

The Peninsuala Hotel still…
The Peninsuala Hotel still has its camouflage painted exterior so this photo is in the immediate post-war period (1945-1953)
HMS Swiftsure?

Hi There,
I wonder where in Wanchai was the photographer located. Somewhere on Kennedy Road? Unfortunately the trees had blocked most of the buildings in the foreground for clues.
