Thanks to Wally Murison for the following information about his grandfather. Wally writes:
My grandfather Chief Detective Inspector William Murison KPM served in the Hong Kong Police between 1895 and 1923. I served in Hong Kong between 1977 and 2008 (officially retiring in 2009).
Please find attached some information that I have gathered for my younger relatives. You may find it of some interest. The two photographs of the Kings Police Medal presentation are copied from photos in my possession.
Wally Murison writes:
James Kerr had an eventful career, with Police Launch 4 sinking under him in 1896, as well as being in command of the Fire Brigade in 1918, at the time of the fire that destroyed the Jockey Club stands in Happy Valley killing over 600 people. He was the first officer in the Force to rise from the rank of Constable to Assistant Superintendent, and retired in 1925 when he was in command of the Water Police.
Moddsey has found a short article about Mackenzie's wartime experiences and internment at Luk Hoi Tung then Stanley. It's on page 30-31 of the Winter 1964 edition of the Hong Kong Police Magazine.
A copy of the article starts at page 107 of this document:
Notes from Chinarail:
Dawson, who later became Deputy Commissioner of Police, was awarded an OBE and QPM. After his retirement to England he became ordained as a priest. Father Dawson served St. John's Church in Sevenoaks as a non-stipendiary priest between 1986 and 1998.
Note from Dave Deptford:
