John Walter POWELL [1908-1955]

John Walter Powell was a representative of Texaco Oil Co in the Far East. In December 1941, he was travelling by boat from Tientsin (Tianjin) to Shanghai. However, his boat was unexpectedly called into Hong Kong. He arrived in the city on 7 December and remained stuck in Hong Kong after the Japanese invasion had begun. 

John Powell was interned at Stanley Camp and repatriated to the United States in 1942. 

He returned to Hong Kong in 1947 and resumed work at Texaco.

John Joseph PETERS (aka Brother Cornelius) [1894-1973]

Brother John Joseph Peters was known as Brother Cornelius Peters, FSC, and served the Brothers of the Christian Schools - La Salle (De La Salle Brothers). He arrived in Hong Kong in 1940 and taught at St. Joseph's College. 

Brother Cornelius was interned at Stanley Camp and later repatriated to the United States in 1942.

Sallie Auris PENDER [1904-1987]

Sallie Auris Pender, better known as Auris Pender was a Southern Baptist missionary who went to China in 1935. She was present in Hong Kong during the Japanese invasion and interned at Stanley Camp. She was repatriated to the United States in 1942.

In the 1950s, Auris Pender went to Singapore to continue her missionary work.
