Was the movie "Suzie Wong" actually shot on location in Hong Kong?  I saw some scenes were pretty much had me convinced as being shot in Hong Kong but the rest seemed to be very "Hollywoodish".

What a pity that the images in this web site couldn't be viewed by iphone/ipad. Would you consider to improve it?

There are at least 4 old buildings - pre-war - on the steps down from Castle Peak Road to Ho Mei Beach in Tsuen Wan district which I can only describe as, at a guess, old beach chalets.   I was wondering if anyone knows the background history to these ?    You have to take a look to see the curiosity value in them - apologies, no photos this time!

The steps to the beach are next to the Airport Core Programme Exhibition Centre - in the old Homi Villa built for the Ruttonjee family and later British Army quarters.

Any idea what the old stone building (it looks like a house) just after the barrier across the road from the reservoir is.  Next to the Water Supplies dept. flats on Pok Fu Lam Reservoir road?

It looks recently abandoned as there are window aircon units in it.

My grandfather, Henry John Cleere (1851-1936), worked for Gilmans in the City of London until his retirement in the early 1920s, when I believe he was Chief Clerk. If one looks towards Shek Ko Road from Redhill, you can see a monument on a wooded hillside overlooking the reservoir.

Does anyone know what it is and its history?

I have been told that as a result of the invasion and occupation of Hong Kong during World War II, almost all original records and correspondence of the Hong Kong Police were lost.  Most people suspected that they were deliberately destroyed prior to and during the invasion, or being shipped to Japan.

Hi,

I remember there used to be a Sailors & Soldiers Home on Hennessy Road, Wanchai close to Fenwick Street.  However it has not shown up in any old photos I came across on this site.  Does anyone know its history, have any photos and know when it was demolished?
