Clement Albert Braga


Born, Macau 23 September 1902; died, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, 
7 February 1972, aged 69.

Married: to Muriel Williamson in 1938 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Children: One daughter: Edith Lynne Braga, born 27 July 1946

Lynne Braga wrote fully and frankly about her father’s life in Canada between 1946 and 1972, but she knew little about his earlier years. Accordingly, this account is supplemented by extracts from Stuart’s book, Making Impressions.

Henry William MILLS [c.1893-1967]

Henry William Mills appears in the 1941 Jurors List as an assistant with the Standard-Vacuum Oil Co. Ltd at Lai Chi Kok. 

He was married to Thelma Mills. Both were interned at Stanley Camp.

Henry Mills died on 30 May 1967 in Victoria, B. C., Canada

William Henry TAYLOR [1906-1965]

William Henry Taylor was employed as a principal economist in the Division of Monetary Research of the Treasury Department in Washington D.C.. He had been appointed to the China Stabilization Board and was on official business in China and Hong Kong in December 1941. 

After the fall of Hong Kong, he was interned at Stanley Camp and later repatriated in 1942.

Mary CAIN (aka Sister Mary de Ricci) [1904-1987]

Mary Cain was better known as Sister Mary de Ricci. She served the Maryknoll Sisters and was sent to Hong Kong in 1927. Prior to the Pacific war, Sister Mary de Ricci worked at Maryknoll Convent School in Kowloon and Holy Spirit School on Caine Road. She later became House Superior of Holy Spirit School.

Tong LOUIE (aka 雷鈺棠) [1914-1998]

Born and raised in Vancouver, Tong Louie’s involvement with his community was boundless and his contribution to its welfare exemplary.

Nell HALL (née FUNK) [1909-2004]

Nell Hall was a Canadian/American missionary serving the Assemblies of God Church. Nell and her husband, Abel married in 1936 and set sail for China on Christmas Day of the same year. They arrived in Hong Kong and later pioneered a church in Tai Po Market. By December 1941, the Halls had two sons, Arlin, aged 3 and Cecil, a baby only six weeks old. Both children were born in Hong Kong.
